Sammie
White (Yogi) October
20, 1942 - August 16, 1993
Sammie
established S & S Enterprises (Yogi's Towing & Auto Repair),
a thriving and successful auto repair and towing company. Mr. White was
husband to Angelene Nelson (Frederick). He was father to Kenneth, Vickie,
Dennis, Tina, Crystal, Precious,and Michael White; in addition to Torry
and Chico Cooper. His graciousness will always be remembered. He came
to Pompano when he was only thirteen years old with only a few dollars
in his pocket. As a determined and hardworking man, he established a
prominent business and demostrated what determination and stedfastness
can do for all.

Frank
& Florence Ali 1920
- 1960
Occupations: Beautician
and Barber. Mr. and Mrs. Ali were very successful in acquiring land
and rental properties, in addition to their occupations. Their spacious
and elegant home was used to ensure the comfort of famous negro entertainers
during their gigs away from home. Ms. Ali was actively involved in civic
affairs.

Ernest E. & Effie Mae Graham October
9, 1900 - 2006
Effie
and Ernest were married in 1927 and blessed with eight children,
four preceded them in death. They settled in Pompano
Beach in 1932. Children: Elizabeth Clayton, Ernestine Rolle, Eddy Mae
Graham and Alden Manely Graham. A true business man, owning his
own Saw Mill. He was appointed Pastor of the House
of God Church in Fort Lauderdale, and later moved his membership to the
Church of God, Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Tony
Alexander 1914
-1940
Landowner
and Farmer, he came to Pompano Beach in 1914 with wife , Rebecca and son,
Moses. He built a home and remained there until his death. Mr. Alexander
owned a ten acre tract of land on Powerline Road.
A portion of that land was donated to the county (Allen Road), for road
construction. Husband of Rebecca Alexander below.

Rebecca
Alexander 1914
-1966
Her contribution
to the community was to serve as a Midwife from the time of her arrival
until she retired from practice in 1949. She delivered babies for
whites and blacks, working under the auspices of the state and county
boards of health for thirty five years.

Mattie
Leola Jones-Morgan December
1, 1937 - September 25, 2005
Born to
the parentage of the late John and Symantha Flowers in Pompano Beach,
Florida. She was the
mother of four daughters, Belinda Black-Baldwin, Yazetta Jones-Knighton,
Ponya Jones and Lashanna Jones-Watson. Mrs. Morgan was a member
of Abyssinian Baptist Church. Employed with Broward
County Food Service as a Nutritionist Supervisor, and Blanche Ely High
School.

Cecil
Vernon Holloway "Fish" Demised
August 22, 2007
Mr. Cecil
Vernon Holloway was the son of the late Ralph and Arbertha Holloway of
Pompano Beach. He married his grade school sweetheart, Robbie Williams. Children:
Douglas, Vincine, Vernon, Xavier, Cecil, Yolanda, and Brigette Holloway-Romain.
Cecil graduated from Jackson Barber College, Miami, Florida
as a "Master Barber." He was also a die hard "San
Francisco 49ers" fan.

Rosa
Mae Gaston Thurston May
4, 1913 - May 1, 2005
Mrs. Rosa
Mae Gaston Thurston was one of three daughters born to Elizabeth and
James Gaston in Pitts, Georgia. She attended Pompano Beach Colored
School, which later became Coleman Elementary. She
married the late James C. Thurston Sr. and to this union thirteen children
were born. In sequential order they are Leona T. Sumpter, Alfred,
James Jr., Percy, Rosetta Griffeth Branch, Theodus Sr., Perry Sr., Henry
Sr., Margaret Ricks, Joyce McGirt, Darlene, Larry and Kenneth.
She was the Charter Matron (President) of the Harmony Chapter of the
Eastern Star.

Willie
Lee Clayton, Sr. January
28, 1929 - June 13, 2002
Mr. Willie
Lee Clayton, Sr. was also known as "Bill." He was born
in Vidalia, Georgia to the parentage of the late Willie James and Lucinda Coglin
Clayton. On August 13, 1949 he was joined in Holy Matrimony to
Mrs. Elizabeth Graham. They were the parents of six children. Lee
Mathis, Reb Dennell, Willie Alton, Altheta Lavette and Willie Lee Clayton.
He was employed at the "Hillsboro Beach Club" for more
than thirty-four years as a caretaker for Harris and Company of Hillsboro
Beach, Florida.
